“The term Operation Phumelela is evocative of what Operation Vulindlela achieved in taking agreed policy and making sure it gets implemented. Many of the ideas we’re talking about are not new. In many cases, they’ve been agreed policies for well over a decade. However, because of the technical complexity of financial system reforms, they often become stuck. A key objective of Operation Phumelela is to get them unstuck by bringing the technical insight and expertise needed to understand how the system needs to be fixed to make these policy objectives real,” says Stuart Theobald.
